CHARLOTTE, N.C., February 14, 2019 -- As an economic engine and one of the largest employers in the region, Atrium Health is committed to investing into our teammates and is leading the way in providing market-competitive compensation and benefits. Over the past year, nearly all Atrium Health teammates in the Charlotte region received some form of performance-based incentive payment, wage increase, or market pay adjustment.

This last year Atrium Health made the following investments to ensure we attract and retain teammates that can deliver on our promise of providing the best care for our patients and the communities we are privileged to serve:

  • Provided more than $100 million of additional income for our teammates in performance-based incentive payment, wage increase, or market pay adjustments.
  • Recruited and hired over 300 highly trained and respected physicians to care for more patients than ever in our nearly 80-year history.
  • Increased our minimum wage to $12.50 for more than 7,500 teammates, leading the industry in this region and placing Atrium Health among the top large employers in the region.
  • Improved nursing wages by investing more than $19 million into the lives of more than 15,000 nurses and nursing support staff.
  • Provided more than $2.03 billion in uncompensated care and other community benefits as an enterprise.

At a time when healthcare is transforming before our eyes and increasing in complexity, recruiting and retaining the best team, including talented leaders capable of managing one of the nation’s most integrated and comprehensive healthcare organizations, is of utmost importance to the Board of Commissioners.

The Atrium Health Board of Commissioners, through its Compensation and Human

Resources Committee, follows a rigorous process, consistent with IRS guidelines, that is in line with industry-standard best practices for well-governed tax-exempt organizations. The Committee engaged independent third-party expert advisors to review the total compensation program and provide comparative data on organizations of similar size, scope and complexity. Compensation for Atrium Health’s top ten executives equates to less than one percent of total compensation for all teammates.

As Atrium Health fulfills its mission to improve health, elevate hope and advance healing – for all, we are more committed than ever to providing compassionate and personalized, world-class care to our patients and the communities we serve.
