The Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy* is a three-year accelerated program which has a mix of online, hybrid, and laboratory/clinical learning. This program will teach graduates to critically think through and problem solve clinical situations.  This program is focused on providing students with an opportunity to learn from leaders in the field of respiratory therapy. Elective courses can be taken in sciences, health services leadership, and community health and wellness to introduce the student to a deeper understanding of the overall healthcare industry and prepare the student for future opportunities in healthcare.  Students will be required to complete clinical hours each semester in the program at various healthcare facilities.  Students will also complete internship hours that will require them to research current issues in Respiratory Care and come up with real world solutions.


The Mission of the Respiratory Therapy program at Cabarrus College is to provide an inclusive learning environment of curiosity and critical inquiry that deepens knowledge and devotion to prevent and treat cardiopulmonary disease with compassion for all.

Program Student Learning Outcomes 

The goals of the Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy program are to prepare graduates:

  • To demonstrate competence in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains of respiratory care practice as performed by Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT).
  • To address the need for healthcare leaders in the field of respiratory care.
  • To address the need for healthcare educators in the field of respiratory care.
  • For the field of respiratory care by including curricular content with objectives related to the acquisition of skills in one or more of the following: management, education, research and advance clinical practice (which may include an area of clinical specialization).

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Respiratory Therapy (RT) program, the student will be able to:

  • Analyze clinical information to manage cardiopulmonary disease.
  • Perform the practical skills necessary within the scope of a registered respiratory therapist.
  • Provide inclusive, compassionate cardiopulmonary care.
  • Demonstrate competency in one or more of the following areas: management, education, research, or advanced clinical practice.
