There will be a delay in the U.S. Department of Education sending FAFSA data to all colleges and universities. Please anticipate receiving your financial aid packages in early April due to this delay. If you haven't completed your 2024-2025 FAFSA form yet, please do so at www.fafsa.gov, listing Cabarrus College (school code: 015358). Once we receive your FAFSA and all required documents and information from the U.S. Department of Education, we'll email your financial aid package. Unfortunately, we can't provide aid information until we have your completed FAFSA, but rest assured, we're here to assist once it's received.

How to Apply for Aid

Step 1: Apply to a degree, diploma or certificate program at Cabarrus College.

Step 2: Know your deadlines. Review important financial aid dates below.

Step 3: Know your grade level for the FAFSA by reviewing the grade level classification form.

Step 4: The FAFSA uses the term contributor, which refers to student spouses and parents who contribute information on a student's FAFSA form. It does not mean they will contribute to the student's educational expenses. Every contributor must have a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID. Create FSA ID online at https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch. You will use this FSA ID again each year to fill out a new FAFSA form.

Step 5: Complete a current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov

  • Select the application for the academic year you will be enrolled.
  • Utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.
  • Be sure to list our Cabarrus College school code 015358 under the school selection.
  • You must complete a FAFSA each year to receive financial aid.

Step 6: Follow up. If additional documents are required, our financial aid office will email you with details. Please note financial aid will not be offered until we have received all required documents.

Step 7: Apply for North Carolina residency to qualify for state scholarships. You must be determined to be a resident of North Carolina at NCresidency.org to be considered for state scholarships. Additional eligibility requirements apply.

Step 8: Notification of Financial Aid Offer. You will receive an email notification instructing you to log into Net Partner, where you can view required documents and accept or decline offered awards.

Financial Aid Important Dates

Apply for financial aid between October 1 and March 15 to be able to receive the maximum financial aid. FAFSAs submitted after this date will be considered only as funds are available. Students starting a program in the Spring semester should complete a FASFA form as soon as possible to allow the Financial Aid Office to determine eligibility.

Special Circumstances Appeal

If you or your parents have experienced a significant change that is not considered on the FAFSA form, please submit a current FAFSA form.  Afterwards please contact the Director of Financial Aid to determine if an adjustment to the FAFSA form can be made by the Financial Aid office.  In most cases documentation must be provided along with a request for reconsideration form

Verification of Aid Application

I have been selected for verification. What does this mean to me?

The Department of Education will select individual FAFSA applications for a review process called verification. Individuals can be selected for one of the three verification categories. When students log into Net partner, they will view the requirements to complete and if required the verification form can be downloaded, completed, and uploaded back to net partner. Financial aid packages will not be determined until all required documents are received and reviewed by the financial aid office.

To qualify for state scholarships and grants, students must apply for state residency determination at www.NCresidency.org , this state agency determines a student's resident status; it is not determined by the College Financial Aid Office.

After You Apply

Once you have submitted your FAFSA, required documents, and have been admitted to Cabarrus College, the Financial Aid Office will determine your estimated cost of attendance. This Cost of Attendance is determined using tuition, fees, room and board (varies by living on your own or with your parents), books, transportation and miscellaneous fees. From that Cost of Attendance your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the FAFSA is subtracted to equal the amount of financial need.

Cost of Attendance

Cost of attendance is the amount it will cost a student to go to school. These costs include expensed paid directly to the school such as tuition and fees. Other costs are also considered that the student incurs while attending school but are not paid directly to the school. These are based on an estimate assessed to all students and may not be an exact cost the student incurs.

Cost of Attendance at Cabarrus College consist of the following categories and cost based on 2023-2024 academic year. This cost of attendance is based on your fall and spring enrollment and may be adjusted based on enrollment each semester.  You can view your cost of attendance on Net partner within your financial aid offer section.

Transportation - $2,000 per semester- prorated for less than full time. Does not apply to fully online program.
Living expenses: Food and housing - $2,400 for students who live with parents (per FAFSA) per semester.
$4,960 for students who live on their own (per FAFSA) per semester.
Books - $750 per semester prorated for less than full time enrollment.
Miscellaneous - $836 per semester this includes loan fees.

Tuition and fees are based on program and enrollment status these are all published on our Cabarrus college of Health Sciences website each year with an undergraduate and graduate section.

A customized Financial Aid package is created for you and may include one or a combination of institutional scholarships, federal or state grants, federally subsidized or unsubsidized loans, and/or on-campus student employment. The Cost of Attendance and award offers are adjusted based on changes in enrollment so may change throughout the academic year. When you create your account in Net Partner you will have access to the Cost of Attendance and award information.

Student will be notified when their Award offer is ready and available for the student to view within Net Partner. Once awards are accepted in Net Partner they will be imported into Sonis to show against the student's statement of student account. There may be a delay of a day or two before your award can be viewed on your bill in Sonis.

An award letter is an official offer of all financial awards that may include federal and state grants, scholarships, work-study and/or student loans.

Awards that have requirements are not considered official until the student has completed all requirements. Students can log into their Net Partner account and view all requirements to complete from the menu. Financial Aid awards are based on eligibility criteria which includes the following:

  • Enrolled credit hours in program**
  • FAFSA results
  • Previous education
  • Residency
  • Grade level
  • Satisfactory academic progress requirements

** It is the responsibility of the student to review and notify the Director of Financial Aid if there are any changes or discrepancies in current enrollment. Award letters will be revised accordingly.

Students who choose to accept Federal loans offered to them cannot receive their first loan disbursement until a master promissory note is completed and Federal Loan entrance counseling is completed. These are both done one time at the beginning of the student's enrollment and are completed online at www.studentaid.gov. Directions to complete these will be found within Net Partner - requirements to complete.

Summer Enrollment

Students who will be enrolled in summer classes will typically have out of pocket expense for these classes because summer financial aid is very limited. Be sure to review your financial aid award offer to determine how much you will owe for summer and plan accordingly.
