Cabarrus College, Home to Nance Family
September 2016
In August, when Peyton Nance began classes at Cabarrus College of Health Sciences, she did not begin this educational journey alone.
(L-R) Spencer, Mary and Peyton Nance
Peyton’s sister, Spencer Nance, was by her side. Peyton is currently enrolled in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program at Cabarrus College and Spencer is enrolled in the Surgical Technology program. Even though the sisters’ schedules don’t usually match up, Peyton says that it is still nice to have her sister as a fellow Cabarrus College student.
While the sisters say they are extremely happy with their choice in Colleges, there is perhaps one person who may be even happier…their mother. Mary Nance, RN/BC states, “As a 1985 graduate of Cabarrus College (formerly Cabarrus Hospital School of Nursing), I couldn’t be prouder that both of my daughters have now chosen Cabarrus College to further their education. My school provided me with the solid foundation and skills needed to successfully enter the
nursing workforce. Thirty-one years later, I continue to love my job as a health care provider. We all play an important role in providing our patients with the best care possible. I am thankful Cabarrus gave me this opportunity and continues to provide an excellent learning environment for their students.”
Throughout the College’s history, there have been families where multiple members have received their education from Cabarrus College. This is a proud fact that continues to repeat itself over and over. Everyone knows that word of mouth is sometimes the best marketing tool there is. And when it comes from a family
member, especially someone’s own mother, that is certainly something to be proud of.
Peyton says that she nor her sister chose Cabarrus College just because their mother is an alumna, they chose it because it was the perfect fit for them. They both attended an Open House and say they instantly fell in love with the College. The small campus and close-knit student body has made them feel right at home. Peyton beams as she speaks about how many friends she has already made at Cabarrus College, which reiterates to her that she made the right decision choosing Cabarrus College. Proudly, Peyton, Spencer and Mary are not only members of the Nance family, but members of the larger Cabarrus College of Health Sciences family.
