The Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute Fellowship in Adult Cardiovascular Care is an extensive 12-month program that prepares advanced practice providers (APPs) to gain additional knowledge, skills and competency within the specialty of cardiovascular medicine. In conjunction with Atrium Health’s Center for Advanced Practice, Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) and Sanger, the fellowship will provide advanced training in cardiovascular disease management with experiences in adult consultative cardiology, ambulatory/longitudinal cardiovascular care, electrophysiology, heart failure/transplant, invasive and noninvasive cardiology, critical care cardiology and research and scholarly activity.

This intensive fellowship program prepares APPs to provide excellent care for patients with acute and chronic cardiac diseases. The APP cardiovascular fellow will be under the direct supervision of Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute at CMC.

Rotations

The cardiovascular fellowship provides advanced didactic education with comprehensive rotations to include the continuum of care of the cardiovascular patient. APP fellows are members of the Sanger team and will receive focused, dedicated individual training in addition to the existing cardiology curriculum already offered to residents and medical students at CMC.

  • Interventional cardiology
  • Structural heart
  • Noninvasive cardiovascular imaging
  • Ambulatory/Longitudinal care
  • Adult congenital, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and structural heart clinics
  • Heart failure and cardiac transplant/Ventricular assist device (VAD) program
  • Electrophysiology
  • Coronary care unit
  • Community hospital cardiovascular rotation
