President, Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute

As the leader of Carolinas HealthCare System’s Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute since 2009, Dr. Colavita has been responsible for integrating and coordinating the complete spectrum of cardiovascular services. With a clear focus on patient-centered care, Dr. Colavita has worked to recruit internationally recognized physicians, support cutting-edge research and promote a culture of collaboration, elevating Sanger to the forefront of innovative cardiovascular care nationwide.

 In addition to serving on the Medical Alumni Board of Wake Forest University School of Medicine and as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill, Dr. Colavita is a member of the American Heart Association Council on Clinical Cardiology and Council on Quality of Care and Outcomes Research. He has presented more than 120 lectures, exhibits or films, and he has published numerous book chapters, journal articles and abstracts.
