Visits from family and friends bring happiness and comfort to patients at Levine Children's Hospital. A visit – however long or short – can be a very bright spot in what might otherwise be a trying day. We've provided some useful visitor information below. Before your next visit, please review our full list of latest visitor policies, restrictions and exceptions. If you have any questions or concerns, your care team is here to help.

Visiting Hours at Levine Children's Hospital

Parents and guardians are welcome to stay 24 hours a day.

Normal visiting hours at Levine Children's Hospital are typically 12:30 to 8:30 p.m. If your child is not up to receiving visitors, you can rely on our staff to ask well-wishers to come by at another time. Patients may have up to 4 visitors at their bedside at one time.

We encourage you to spend as much time with your child as possible — especially overnight. Parents and guardians are welcome to stay 24 hours a day. Brothers and sisters may visit as your child's condition allows, but we ask that they not spend the night in the hospital.

For the safety of all of our patients, we also ask that you:

  • Check with your child's nurse before bringing children younger than 13 years old to visit.
  • Let your child's nurse know if you are taking your child (the patient) off the unit.

Visiting in Neonatal Intensive Care and Neonatal Progressive Care

Seeing your new baby is important to you, your child and your family. We encourage you to visit often while your baby is under our care. You may want to keep a journal during your child's stay and bring one or two small washable toys for your baby.

The neonatal nurseries provide critical care for babies who are born prematurely or require special assistance. We will help you feel comfortable around the strange sounds, smells and equipment that you will find there. As your child grows more stable, you will be able to hold and rock your baby, and help hospital staff in other care functions.

Due to the complex nature of our patients, we ask that visitors be 13 years or older. Siblings ages 2 years and older are welcome to visit.

Some requirements for the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery:

  • Parents are welcome to visit from the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. (all hours of the day, except for shift change). Parents must have an identification bracelet that matches their child's to visit.
  • All other visitors are welcome from noon to 9 p.m., except during the hour of 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. when the nurseries are closed to all visitors. Guests must be accompanied by a parent wearing the appropriate identification bracelet.
  • Siblings ages 2 years and older are welcome to visit. We ask that you not leave any children unattended in the waiting room or hallway.

For visiting parents and legal guardians:

  • Occasionally, we may need to ask you to leave the nursery in the event of an emergency or a special procedure. Please wait in the family area, and a member of our staff will bring you back to the nursery as soon as possible. If your baby has a change in condition, you will be notified immediately.
  • The family waiting room is available to you 24 hours a day.

Visiting in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit

The intensive care units provide specialized care for children with very serious medical problems, major surgeries or serious injuries. We encourage you to visit your child often and touch, talk to and interact with your child. Due to the complex nature of our patients, we ask that visitors be 13 years or older.

We will help you feel comfortable around the unusual sights, sounds and smells of the unit. We encourage you to bring a special toy, blanket or personal item for your child. You can also bring a family photo or other special photo.

For visiting parents and legal guardians:

Space is limited so we ask that no more than two adult family members spend the night.
