Dr. Nimeri is board certified in general surgery and obesity medicine. He specializes in severe obesity, surgical management of Type 2 diabetes, reflux disease, re-operative surgery for patients with severe obesity and adolescent weight loss surgery.

He serves as an associate professor of surgery and chief of Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Dr. Nimeri also serves as director of Atrium Health Weight Management in Charlotte, Concord Pineville and Gastonia and director of the Bariatric Fellowship Program at Atrium Health Mercy, a facility of Carolinas Medical Center.

He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles, several book chapters and is an associate editor of the Obesity Surgery Journal. Dr. Nimeri has received numerous awards, including the Presidential Award from the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO), the IFSO Ambassador Award, Cleveland Clinic’s Zielony Nursing Institute Award, the Nightingale Physician Collaboration Award, the Quality Star from SKMC Quality Week and a surgical residency Teacher of the Year Award from SEHA (Abu Dhabi Healthcare Company).

Dr. Nimeri received his medical degree at Al-Azhar Medical College and Super Specialty Hospital and completed his residency at Meridia Huron Hospital. He followed that with a fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and 5 children exploring the outdoors. He plays soccer, walks and enjoys reading about psychology and history.
