Biography

“It has been very gratifying to take care of children who have serious and life-threatening illnesses, see them through their treatment and watch them grow up.”

Dr. McMahon is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology-oncology (cancer and blood disorders). He specializes in sickle cell disease and hematology.

He has been working in the field of pediatric hematology-oncology for over 40 years. When he first started most children with sickle cell disease did not live beyond age 18, but there were new treatments being developed that have extended the lives of children with the disease. Dr. McMahon has many patients today that he treated as young children who are now adults with families of their own. All of this has been extremely rewarding and helped him to continue in the field.

He received his medical degree at Georgetown University and completed his residency at Children's Memorial Hospital. He followed that with a fellowship at Riley Hospital for Children.

Outside of work, he enjoys swimming, biking and spending time with his wife, 5 children and 3 grandchildren.
