Meet Our First Teens Who Received Their COVID-19 Vaccines

On Thursday, May 13, Atrium Health Levine Children’s administered the first doses of COVID-19 vaccines to eligible teens ages 12 to 15 following authorization from the FDA and CDC after safety and efficacy review. Read more to hear why vaccination is so important for these teens who are among the first to receive the vaccine, along with fun facts about these patients.

 

Following review of safety and efficacy data by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Pfizer received emergency use authorization of their COVID-19 vaccine for teens ages 12 to 15. Prior to this announcement, Pfizer vaccines were authorized for those ages 16 and older.

Atrium Health is among the first health systems to offer vaccines to these teens who have been eagerly awaiting their chance to get vaccinated! Read below to learn more about why vaccination is so important to them along with a few fun facts about who they are and what they look forward to doing once they receive their doses of hope:

What are you looking forward to doing once vaccinated? Being able to be with friends again.

"I just want to help to get things back to normal. I haven’t been able to socialize the way I used to. Humans are social creatures."

What are you looking forward to doing once vaccinated? Eventually not having to wear a mask all the time at school and travelling.

"I want to set an example for my friends that it is safe and important for our school to return to more normal times."

"If I am being honest I really hate shots. But more important than that, I don’t want to get COVID-19 and I want to help keep others around me safe. I can’t wait to be able to do normal activities again."
