Because there’s not enough vaccine to offer it to everyone at the same time, the COVID-19 vaccine is being distributed in phases. These phases are based on your risk of severe illness or exposure to COVID-19. This follows guidance from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the state of North Carolina.
For specific details on each phase and who’s included, visit the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services website.
Following state guidelines, we can’t give the COVID-19 vaccine to individuals until they’re eligible. As we enter each new phase, people from the previous phases can still get the vaccine.
You can only schedule the COVID-19 vaccine when you’re eligible for it. When you’re eligible, follow these easy steps to schedule your appointment online:

The COVID-19 vaccine is given in a series of 2 shots of the same vaccine, given a few weeks apart.
As with all appointments at Atrium Health, these vaccines will be given in COVID-Safe places. We'll ensure physical distancing and have proper personal protective equipment (PPE) on patients and staff.
The first FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccines require 2 doses to get you fully vaccinated.
The first dose gets your immune system ready. It helps your body recognize COVID-19 and fight it if you’re exposed. The second dose gives you the vaccine’s full protection. It makes your immune system stronger and better at fighting COVID-19.
Learn more about why the second dose is so important.
