Do I need to have any songwriting or other music experience to attend this group?

Most definitely not! Most of our attendees have little to no experience writing songs, nor are musicians. The songwriting group is structured in a way that allows all members, regardless of experience or musical talent, to succeed and engage in songwriting for their own therapeutic benefit.

Do we write songs collectively as a group or will I write songs by myself?

Most of the songs written are composed collaboratively by the group. However, there are several opportunities for attendees to write their own songs and share if desired.

Can I have a recording of the songs written in this group?

Recordings will be made of each song written and sent via email to those who attended the group. Therefore, attendees can have a tangible recording of their finished product and further engage with the song for therapeutic benefit.

Explore songwriting as a way to process and relieve stress, share your life experience, and connect with others, while creating music and lyrics that provide meaning to you. No songwriting experience needed.

Maddie DePriest

Maddie DePriest is a board-certified, neurologic music therapist who is driven by her passion to utilize music as a means of supporting patients, care partners, and teammates throughout their healing process. As a music therapist with Levine Cancer, Maddie specializes in adult oncology, neurorehabilitation, and mental health. Maddie is a provider grounded in trauma-informed philosophy, working to promote self-empowerment and healing for the whole person through the use of individualized, musical interventions. When Maddie is not songwriting or engaging in music itself, she is spending quality time with her family, friends, and further exploring the greater Charlotte area.
