Instructors
Melissa Buchanan, MSW, MPH, LCSW-A
Melissa brings over 10 years of social work experience at Atrium supporting patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, helping individuals navigate the physical and emotional challenges of illness. As a young adult cancer survivor, she has firsthand insight into the distinct and often overlooked challenges faced by young adults with cancer.
Peer support played a vital role in Melissa’s own survivorship journey, inspiring her strong commitment to fostering connection and community among young adult cancer patients. She is passionate about creating spaces where young adults feel seen, understood, and supported by others with shared experiences—recognizing that their needs often differ greatly from those of older adult populations.
Isabella Taylor, MSW, LCSWA
Isabella Taylor- MSW, LCSWA, graduated with a Masters of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2023. She has previous experience working with patients in a hospital setting and has provided care to patients at Levine Cancer Institute for over two years. "I'm so grateful to work for such an incredible organization. Working within the oncology population is a longtime passion of mine. I continue to be inspired each day by the resiliency and strength of all of our patients. I can't wait for the many opportunities of growth that our new support group will bring and the impact that it will have on our young adult population."
