Patient Care and Health Education

We offer hundreds of short, engaging educational videos in English and Spanish that teach our patients about medical conditions, procedures, treatments, and wellness that can be used in our hospitals and doctor’s offices, and in patients' homes.

Atrium Health hospitals are equipped with MyChart Bedside iPads for patient use. The MyChart Bedside iPads allows patients and their families access to:

  • Watch videos selected specifically for them to help them relax and learn about their health or condition
  • Stay in the know about their care team, daily schedule, and recent results
  • Stay entertained with complimentary access to the Internet, movies, and games

Also, patients can access health education through our secure patient portal, MyAtriumHealth.

Language Access

Atrium Health’s Language Access team bridges communication gaps to help provide full access to quality healthcare.

Our 75 professional medical interpreters have a vast knowledge of different cultures and medical terminology.

All care locations can provide in-person or over-the-phone interpreting services to patients and families 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our in-house interpreters speak primarily Spanish, and our phone feature offers interpretation services in more than 200 languages. We also provide American Sign Language (ASL) to our deaf and hard-of-hearing patients.

Patients and families in need of language assistance should request an interpreter when they schedule their medical visit.

Spiritual Care

The Spiritual Care department promotes a holistic approach to care, with a focus on the emotional and spiritual aspects of healing.

We strive to meet patients where they are, aid in the process of healing through human conversation, offer guidance and a calming presence, and assure people that they are not alone in their journey.

The Spiritual Care staff is available to support your or your family’s emotional and spiritual needs:

  • When a loved one is seriously ill or facing crisis
  • When you or other family members are facing or recovering from surgery
  • When you are discouraged or feel life has lost its meaning
  • When you are suffering a loss or experiencing a major adjustment

Chaplains

Our staff chaplains are an important part of the healthcare team and are on call 24 hours a day for people of all faiths or no particular faith background. Chaplains are available for encouragement, support, prayer, spiritual counseling, and facilitating communication among caregivers, patients and families.

All chaplains in the Spiritual Care department have met rigorous national standards in providing spiritual care in a clinical setting and are certified by a national certification board.

Chapel and Worship Services

Interfaith worship services are offered regularly at each hospital. A chapel is also open 24 hours a day for private prayer and meditation.

If you have questions or wish to locate a chaplain, please call 704-355-2218.

Spiritual Care and Education

Atrium Health’s Spiritual Care and Education department also offers a variety of education opportunities for clergy, lay people, and divinity school students in the area. Learn more about our programs.

Patient and Family Advisors

Patients and family members offer unique ideas and perspectives that enhance care and services across Atrium Health. That is why our Patient Experience department has established the volunteer role of Patient and Family Advisor.

Role of Advisors

Patient and Family Advisors serve on committees that help Atrium Health plan, evaluate and expand services and offerings. They provide valuable input to create an excellent patient experience, and help us build stronger partnerships among patients, families and our team members.

Ideal candidates will have the passion and ability to:

  • Have direct experience as a patient, family member or caregiver at Atrium Health
  • Work in partnership with others and collaborate on solutions
  • Listen and reflect on issues, thoughts and priorities that are different from their own
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality of patient and organization information
