Atrium Health Perspective Health and Wellness provides, enhanced, personalized care for all stages of life, including when palliative care - also called comfort care - is needed. Our palliative care is designed to help improve quality of life while offering support, comfort and peace of mind to both patients and family members.
Patients can begin palliative care at the time of diagnosis and can continue with treatment as appropriate and desired. The palliative care provider will function as an advocate, communicator and educator to ensure patients and caregivers understand the disease and what is happening. The goal of palliative care is to maintain the highest quality of life while managing treatment and other needs.
Anyone with a chronic condition or serious illness can receive a referral for palliative care, although it best serves patients whose health has declined. Typically, a palliative care patient has a prognosis of 2 years or less; however, patients may be seen at any time for advanced care planning or an extra layer of support to improve their quality of life.
At every stage of life, Perspective Health and Wellness offers more attentive, personalized care tailored to your specific needs.
“I chose palliative medicine to empower and comfort my patients as they approach end-of-life care. I have previously worked in the hospital setting, outpatient family medicine, palliative care and hospice. From these experiences, I believe in the value and necessity of palliative medicine.”
Carrasquillo is a board-certified family nurse practitioner. She has a clinical interest in palliative medicine.
She felt drawn to her specialty because of the lack of support for end-of-life care. Carrasquillo feels there is tremendous support for patients and families upon entering the world and believes there should be an equal amount of support for the end of life.
At Perspective Health & Wellness, you’ll have access to Atrium Health’s wide range of world-class specialty care services. When you need a referral, our specialists provide the highest quality care.
