James Symanowski, PhD

Chair, LCI Department of Biostatistics and Data Sciences

James Symanowski has more than 33 years of post-graduate experience working as a biostatistician in the health care industry. He gained more than 16 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, working in both the pre-clinical and clinical areas, including extensive work on all phases of clinical trials in the oncology therapeutic space. After joining Nevada Cancer Institute in 2006 as the founding member of the Biostatistics Department, Symanowski collaborated with investigators throughout the institution and provided statistical support in the laboratory, translational, clinical and population sciences areas of research. Symanowski joined LCI in 2012 as a founding member of the Biostatistics Department and since then he has collaborated with investigators involved with clinical, translational and population studies. In addition to his technical role as senior biostatistician, Symanowski also serves as chair of the LCI Department of Biostatistics and Data Sciences. In this capacity, Symanowski sets the strategic direction of the department and aids in the recruitment, development and retention of team members. Additionally, he facilitates intra- and inter-departmental process improvement initiatives.
