The Bob and Carolyn Tucker Inpatient Unit represents an alternative to the hospital setting. Located on 12 wooded acres in Kannapolis, NC, Tucker Inpatient Unit provides a home-like setting for those facing end of life.

Tucker Inpatient Unit services include:

  • 24 hour-a-day nursing care
  • A private room and bath for each patient, including pullout couch
  • Medication, equipment and medical supplies related to patient’s care needs
  • Flexible visiting hours
    • Pets may even visit.  Check with staff on guidelines.
  • Chaplain, social work and volunteer services
  • Private sitting area for families
  • Dining room with large table to share a family meal
  • A bright sunroom overlooking peaceful garden (with birdfeeder and benches)
  • A peaceful and serene chapel, which may be used for meditation or prayer
  • Play area and toys for visiting children
  • Home-cooked meals prepared fresh, daily (taking into consideration the special needs and likes of each patient)
  • Laundry service for each patient

Payment Information for Tucker Inpatient Unit

General Inpatient (GIP) Level of Care is used for short term management of pain and symptom issues or for temporary respite care. GIP and respite care are covered by most insurances – including Medicare and Medicaid.

Routine Level of Care is used for transitional care as more permanent arrangements are made. Room and Board charges apply and are typically paid for by the patient or family. Room and Board is not usually covered by Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance. Financial assistance may be available for qualifying patients. Payment for hospice care may come from the Hospice Medicare Benefit, Hospice Medicaid Benefit, and/or private insurance.
