Mission and Vision
Our roots date back to 1940, when Charlotte Memorial Hospital opened its doors and took in patients transferred from St. Peter’s Hospital, which was the first public hospital in North Carolina. And, while it has been more than 75 years since our founding, we are more committed than ever to the bedrock of our mission: providing care for everyone, regardless of who they are, what their background or where they come from.
Though the heart of our organization hasn’t changed, we have evolved over the past 75 years, as has the healthcare field. This evolution underpins the importance of our mission. That mission? To improve health, elevate hope and advance healing – for all.
- Health has a much expanded meaning in today’s field. Gone are the days where our work began and ended at the doors of our hospitals and offices. We are committed to helping our patients lead healthier lives and keeping our communities healthy.
- Hope is in everything we do. No parent wants to walk their child into Levine Children’s Hospital. No one wants to rush into our emergency department looking for a loved one. No one wants to hear they have cancer. But when they do, we are here to make sure they will get the very best care available.
- Healing is what this organization seeks to provide. From our earliest days, we have been focused on providing excellent care. From the most basic of services to the most complex, from physical ills to emotional pains, and from the day-to-day practice of medicine to advanced treatments and clinical trials, healing is what we do.
