Biography
“My personal philosophy is to help patients have control over their care and health. As a hospitalist, I spend time with patients answering questions and helping them understand the reasons for the interventions we advise. There is no such thing as a dumb question. I try to allow patients to have input in the decision-making process. My overall goal is to have healthy moms and healthy babies.”
Dr. Barnas is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN). He is a hospitalist specializing in performing deliveries and prioritizing patients in the hospital.
Due to his experience with HIV research, Dr. Barnas initially thought he would specialize in infectious disease. But during his third year of medical school, he had the chance to feel a baby kicking in the womb, and he was fascinated.
He loves the wide variety of experiences and surgeries of the OB/GYN specialty, and he particularly enjoys delivering babies.
During residency, Dr. Barnas received the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Award for Humanism and Excellence in Teaching.
Dr. Barnas received his medical degree at Drexel University and completed residency at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and son. He loves to travel, see new places and spend time with his extended family, which is spread across the Eastern US.
