Biography
“I appreciate health as a reflection of the whole patient, and my approach as a generalist is to offer holistic healthcare.”
Dr. Cheng is board certified in internal medicine, with a clinical interest in preventive care and chronic disease management. She is a professor of medicine at the UNC School of Medicine, where she also serves as the director of the internal medicine ambulatory clerkship and director of interprofessional education.
She is actively involved in research addressing social determinants of health to improve health outcomes, the efficacy of team-based care for complex cases and the use of virtual care in primary care.
Dr. Cheng has been frequently named a Top Doctor by Charlotte Magazine and a Top Physician by the Consumer Research Council of America. She has received the Preceptor Excellence in Teaching Award from UNC School of Medicine. She has been recognized with the Exceptional Women in Medicine Award by Castle Connolly and received the Gary Greenberg Memorial Award for Volunteerism and Community Service from the American College of Physicians North Carolina Chapter. She was elected Alpha Omega Alpha by the UNC School of Medicine students.
Dr. Cheng received her medical degree and completed a residency at the University of California. She is a fellow of the Academy of Physicians
When not working, Dr. Cheng enjoys reading, swimming, hiking, practicing yoga, cooking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
