Biography
“The resilience of children and families with complex medical issues has always greatly impressed and encouraged me in all that I do. I feel these families and children provide examples of humility and grace we can all learn from. All children deserve a chance at happiness, a chance to be free of pain, a chance to feel good and a chance to live the best lives they possibly can.”
Kelly Mekerian is a board-certified pediatric nurse practitioner in both primary and acute care (BC-PCPNP and CPNP-AC). She has clinical interests in primary and acute care pediatrics, complex diagnoses, gastrointestinal issues, feeding intolerance, feeding advancement, failure to thrive, enteral nutrition, swallowing difficulties and airway disorders.
She previously cared for children with acute and chronic health issues at Miami Children's Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital. Her experiences at these world-renowned hospitals gave her comprehensive knowledge of many complex medical problems across various specialties.
Mekerian has received several awards, including the Boston Children's Hospital Leadership Advancement Level II Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner Award and the Boston Children's Hospital Shining Star Award. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society.
She has presented research on tracheomalacia and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) at national and local conferences.
Mekerian received her master’s degree as a pediatric primary care nurse practitioner from Florida International University and her post-master's certificate as an acute care pediatric nurse from Northeastern University.
Her husband is an anesthesiologist, and they have 4 busy children and a young puppy. Her family loves being active and outdoors, especially traveling to national parks, visiting historic places, hiking in the mountains, relaxing by the ocean and spending time with their extended families.
She also enjoys traveling internationally with her husband, walking and running, and quiet time alone to keep up to date on the latest medical treatments and therapies in pediatrics, learning, reflection, meditation and prayer.
