Biography
“I want to see every child have appropriate access to healthcare and I welcome opportunities to help prevent child abuse by providing education for the community.”
Dr. Ham is board certified in general pediatrics and child abuse pediatrics. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has a special interest in child abuse prevention and the treatment of sexually transmitted infections in children.
She is the medical site lead for the Jeff Gordon Child Advocacy Center as well as the Butterfly House Child Advocacy Center.
Dr. Ham was invited to Oxford, England in 2016 to present her research on prepubertal anogenital chlamydia infections. She received the Top 20 Under 40 Award from the SC Black Pages in 2017, recognizing her as one of the top black professionals in South Carolina.
She has been involved in research focusing on the treatment of chlamydia in prepubescent patients. She is currently working on quality improvement of the guidelines and protocols for children seen for suspected child abuse within the Atrium Health system.
Dr. Ham enjoyed learning about the human body and medicine as a child and learned a lot from her own pediatrician. In medical school, she volunteered at a group home for abused boys and decided to further specialize in child abuse pediatrics to take care of this specific patient population.
She received her medical degree and completed a fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. She completed her residency at Augusta University.
In her spare time, she enjoys watching movies and football, reading and collecting earrings. She published her first children's book and hopes to write several more.
