Dr. Gulati is board certified in cardiology with a subspecialty in advanced heart failure and transplantation.
He is the chief of Adult Cardiology and the medical director of Heart Failure and Transplant Services at Atrium Health’s Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute, where he has been serving patients since 2003. He specializes in cardiac transplantation, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, total artificial hearts, left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) and heart failure devices related to remote patient monitoring.
Prior to joining Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute, Dr. Gulati worked at Johns Hopkins as assistant chief of service and at Brigham Women’s Hospital as instructor in internal medicine.
Dr. Gulati was named a Top Doctor by Charlotte magazine, is a member of several professional organizations and has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications.
He was drawn to the field of heart failure and cardiac transplantation because he enjoys the emotional connections with patients and their families. Dr. Gulati has a background in engineering and a strong interest in cardiac physiology and how technology plays a role in improving patients’ quality of life.
He is the principal investigator on numerous multicenter clinical trials, testing novel therapies and advancements in heart failure research.
Dr. Gulati received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at The George Washington University and his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed residency and fellowships at Johns Hopkins University.
He enjoys spending time outside of work with his wife and 2 sons.
