Biography
“My hope is to improve function, relieve pain, help children and families and educate the next generation of surgeons. I have been involved in orthopedic surgery education my entire career. I want to help ensure that the highest quality medical and surgical care for the most complex problems is delivered in medical institutions dedicated to education.”
Dr. Steve Frick is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon. He focuses on pediatric orthopedic surgery. His clinical interests include foot and ankle disorders, especially congenital clubfoot; fractures and injuries; osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease); skeletal dysplasias (a genetic condition that affects how bones develop and grow) and neurofibromatosis (tumors in the brain, spinal cord and nerves).
Dr. Frick is a professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and an associate dean at Wake Forest University School of Medicine Charlotte campus. He has been named a Top Doctor by Charlotte magazine multiple times.
He is a past president of the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America and a recipient of the Teacher of the Year award from the Department of Orthopedics at both Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center and Stanford University. He previously served as the vice chair of education and chief of pediatric orthopedic surgery in the Stanford University Department of Surgery.
His areas of research include pediatric trauma, congenital clubfoot and leadership development in medicine. He has edited 2 textbooks on pediatric orthopedic trauma.
Dr. Frick received his bachelor’s degree in zoology at The George Washington University and his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed residency in orthopedics at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center and a fellowship in pediatric orthopedic surgery at the University of California, San Diego.
He and his wife have 2 children, a son and a daughter, and a granddaughter. He likes walking and training their Hungarian vizsla dog, hiking, cycling, playing golf and fishing. When he’s not being active outdoors, he enjoys reading nonfiction.
