Steven Teich, MD
Prior to joining Carolinas HealthCare System in May 2015, Dr. Steven Teich spent 25 years at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio. At Nationwide Children’s Hospital Dr. Teich was Director of the Surgical Neuromodulation Program, Surgical Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Surgical Director of ECMO, and Co-Director of the Ohio Fetal Medicine Collaborative. He achieved the rank of Professor of Clinical Surgery from The Ohio State University. Dr. Teich has been listed in Best Doctors in America annually since 2005.
As Director of the Surgical Neuromodulation Program, Dr. Teich developed a surgical motility program that included pediatric surgeons, pediatric gastrointestinal motility specialists, and pediatric urologists. He was one of only two pediatric surgeons in the country placing gastric stimulators for treatment of gastroparesis in adolescents. Subsequently, Dr. Teich began performing sacral nerve stimulation for treatment of urinary and fecal incontinence. He was the first person in the world to use sacral nerve stimulation to treat pediatric patients with fecal incontinence after imperforate anus repair.
At Carolinas HealthCare System, Dr. Teich continues to perform gastric and sacral nerve stimulation in pediatric patients. Recently, he initiated an FDA trial of esophageal stimulation for gastro-esophageal reflux disease in adults. Dr. Teich has presented his motility work to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Surgeons, the North American Neuromodulation Society and multiple international meetings.
