Enterprise Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer
Brett J. Denton is enterprise executive vice president and chief legal officer for Atrium Health, one of the largest non-profit and leading academic health systems in the United States. As a member of the executive leadership team, he oversees the enterprise-wide legal and risk functions for Atrium Health. He also provides leadership for the organization’s corporate compliance, privacy, internal audit, corporate risk management, corporate insurance and enterprise risk management departments.
With more than 28 years of experience, Denton joined Atrium Health in 1999. Prior to joining the organization, Denton practiced law for six years with the Charlotte law firm Robinson Bradshaw & Hinson, P.A. Additional leadership positions held throughout his career include serving as the deputy general counsel for Atrium Health and as the regional executive for Atrium Health’s Regional Partnerships group where he managed Atrium Health’s regional hospitals and health networks in North Carolina and South Carolina.
As an active member of the community, Denton currently serves as treasurer for the Charlotte Arts and Sciences Council Board of Directors. Previously, he chaired the board of directors of Crisis Assistance Ministry and served as the chair of the Mecklenburg County Bar Fee Dispute Resolution Committee.
Denton holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
