Kurt Stuenkel

President and CEO, Atrium Health Floyd

Kurt Stuenkel, FACHE, is president and CEO of Atrium Health Floyd, part of the Atrium Health enterprise, one of the largest non-profit and leading academic health systems in the United States. As a member of the executive leadership team, he leads Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia; Floyd Cherokee Medical Center in Centre, Alabama; Floyd Polk Medical Center in Cedartown, Georgia, as well as Floyd Behavioral Health Center, a freestanding 53-bed behavioral health facility, also in Rome; and 26 primary care practices and 8 urgent care locations across six counties in northwest Georgia and northeast Alabama. He also serves as secretary for Floyd Healthcare Management Inc., Polk Medical Center Inc. and Floyd Cherokee Medical Center LLC., Floyd Healthcare Resources Inc. and the Hospital Authority of Floyd County.

With more than 30 years of experience working for Floyd, Stuenkel has served as president and chief executive officer since 1996. Previously, he served as executive vice president and chief operating officer, senior vice president, assistant executive director, director of professional services and projects officer.

Dedicated to serving his community in Rome, Georgia, Stuenkel is a past chair of the local United Way of Rome and Floyd County as well as the American Red Cross northwest Georgia chapter, and he is a previous member of the board of the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce. Stuenkel has also served as the board chair for Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals, VHA Georgia and Phoenix Healthcare. He is a past chair for the Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and a former member of the Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission.

Stuenkel is a graduate of the Leadership Rome and Leadership Georgia programs and is currently a member of the Rome Rotary Club and First Baptist Church of Rome. In 2007, Stuenkel was honored with the Grassroots Champions Award from the American Hospital Association and was named the CEO of the Year from the Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals in 2008. He is currently a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. 

Stuenkel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University, as well as a master’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in health administration from Georgia State University.
