Carolinas Medical Center Named Best Hospital in Charlotte
U.S. News & World Report ranks two specialties among the Top 50 in the nation
CHARLOTTE, N.C., August 8, 2017 – Carolinas HealthCare System’s Carolinas Medical Center is recognized as the “Best Hospital” in the Charlotte Metro region by U.S. News & World Report and two specialties, Orthopedics and Ear, Nose & Throat, were ranked among the top 50 programs in their respective fields in the nation.
Carolinas Medical Center was also recognized for high-performing programs in Cancer, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Gastroenterology & GI surgery, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Pulmonology, Urology, Geriatrics and Gynecology.

The annual U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings are designed to help guide patients to the best medical care available in the country and evaluate more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery performs innovative clinical research and features one of the top residency programs in the country. The team leads the way in limb-lengthening surgeries, uses the latest technology to treat and preserve function for orthopedic oncology patients and creates new standards of care through the Carolinas Trauma Network Research Center of Excellence.
“This ranking once again recognizes our world-class status in orthopedic clinical care, scientific contributions and educational endeavors and acknowledges the expertise of all of our faculty surgeons,” said Edward N. Hanley Jr., MD, Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at CMC.
With over 100 ear nose and throat providers, the hospital provides ear, nose & throat care highly-specialized care including audiology, cataract surgery, diabetic eye care and more.
In June, Levine Children’s Hospital was also ranked by U.S. News & World Report in six specialties – Cancer, Cardiology & Heart Surgery, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurosurgery and Orthopedics.

In the 16 specialty areas, 152 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals as high performing across multiple areas of care. The rankings methodology considers patient experience, safety and quality, among other care-related factors.
