Distinction honors industry’s most prominent individuals in terms of leadership and impact

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In the wake of its historic combination announcement, Advocate Health is proud to announce that both CEOs of the new organization – Eugene A. Woods and Jim Skogsbergh – were recognized among Modern Healthcare’s 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare of 2022.

This prestigious recognition acknowledges and honors individuals who are deemed by their peers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare to be the most influential figures in health care in terms of leadership and impact. They include health system leaders, high-level government administrators, elected officials, academics and national thought leaders.

“In a year that has brought new challenges and underscored the need for transformation, we could not be prouder of Gene and Jim being selected for the most influential list,” said Thomas C. Nelson, chair of the Advocate Health board of directors. “Their vision, strategic acumen and operational skill will guide our unified organization as we push past traditional geographic and care delivery boundaries to reshape health care at a national level.”

Together, Woods and Skogsbergh led the combination of Advocate Aurora Health and Atrium Health earlier this month to redefine how, when and where care is delivered. Woods has led Atrium Health since 2016, while Skogsbergh has guided Advocate Aurora Health since 2002.

The combined system, known as Advocate Health, employs 150,000 teammates, serves nearly 6 million patients annually and delivers nearly $5 billion in annual community benefit. It is headquartered in Charlotte, and Wake Forest University School of Medicine serves as the academic core of the enterprise.

“Under Gene and Jim’s guidance, Advocate Health is well-positioned to deliver on its commitments to provide the best health outcomes, make care more accessible and affordable, and serve as a force for meaningful social impact,” said Michele Baker Richardson, the succeeding board chair for Advocate Health. “Their leadership is helping more people live well.”

Collectively the two have been named to the list 16 times.
