Atrium Health Care Everywhere Street Medicine Project is the first street medicine program in Charlotte, NC, and among the first in the country. Through our Department of Emergency Medicine, we send teams directly to encampments to provide compassionate, field-based medical care to people living in these communities. Our program focuses on trauma-informed, patient-centered care, safety, collaboration and ensuring everyone has a fair chance to get the care they need.
Atrium Health Care Everywhere Street Medicine Project’s mission is to provide compassionate, accessible and holistic health care to individuals experiencing homelessness. Our program meets people where they are – physically, emotionally and socially – by delivering medical care, mental health support, and essential services with dignity and respect.
Through outreach, education and collaboration, the initiative strives to bridge gaps in health care access, reduce health disparities, and empower individuals to achieve well-being and stability. In addition, our program is committed to serving as a training ground for learners, fostering future health care professionals who are skilled in culturally responsive, community-centered care.
