An EAP helps employees address personal issues so they can be more productive. Our work-based program identifies and helps employees overcome those personal setbacks that can affect work performance. When companies utilize an EAP, employers save money – money lost due to absenteeism and presenteesim (employees who are at work but whose personal struggles make it impossible for them to focus fully on work).

Critical Incident Stress Debriefing

When there is a traumatic event in the workplace, it can be psychologically overwhelming for those present. EAP provides on-site critical incident stress debriefings within 24 to 72 hours after an incident occurs. This provides an opportunity for recognition and normalization of thoughts and feelings with a trained counselor.

Referrals into the EAP

Either the employee or the supervisor may initiate a contact with an EAP counselor. If an employee wishes to make the contact, he or she may do so simply by calling the EAP office and securing an appointment. Find the referral steps here(PDF).

How to Spot a Troubled Employee

When people are troubled or concerned, their behavior usually changes. Work patterns are usually altered and job performance may decline. Occasional incidents of poor job performance do not necessarily mean that there is a serious problem. One way to assess more serious problems is to note how often and how severe the employee’s job impairment becomes.

The sooner a pattern is identified, the more quickly an employee’s well-being and capabilities can be restored. Remember, however, that an employee does not have to display substandard performance before referral to the Employee Assistance Program.
