Liver cancer is a complex form of cancer that is difficult to detect early. Having an experienced medical team behind you is imperative as you face difficult decisions about liver cancer treatment.

At Atrium Health Levine Cancer, we’ve put together a team of nationally recruited physicians focused on using the latest technology and innovative techniques in the treatment of liver cancer.

Liver cancer tests and diagnosis

If liver cancer is suspected, your doctor may recommend several tests to diagnose or rule out the disease.

Liver cancer diagnostic tests include
  • Physical exam – to check for lumps or other changes, as well as fluid buildup in the stomach
  • Blood tests – to check if the liver is working properly
  • Imaging tests – to get a more detailed look at the stomach and liver
  • Biopsy – a sample of liver tissue that’s analyzed in a lab for cancer cells
