Atrium Health specializes in the care of patients with acute and chronic renal (kidney) disease. At Carolinas Medical Center, we treat adult patients in our inpatient dialysis unit and also have a highly respected kidney transplant program for adults and children.

Levine Children's Hospital, part of Atrium Health, provides specialized care, including dialysis, for children with kidney disease or failure.

Each year, our experienced, caring team serves over 1,000 patients with end-stage renal disease. Our kidney dialysis unit exceeds more than 7,500 inpatient hemodialysis treatments in a year.

The team includes primary doctors and kidney specialists (also called nephrologists), nurses, pharmacist, dialysis personnel, a nutritionist, social workers, a psychologist and spiritual care members.

Our program goals are to:

• Provide patient and family education on end-stage renal disease self-management
• Raise community awareness by providing in-hospital and community education
• Support our patients and families through a monthly support group
