Biography
“I help explore a patient's goals to improve their quality of life while treating complicated and burdensome symptoms throughout the course of disease and treatment.”
Dr. Martin is board certified in internal medicine and hospice and palliative medicine (end-of-life care). She focuses on complex symptom management, including pain, nausea, constipation and insomnia, for advanced cancer patients.
Early in her training, she observed the challenges faced by a close family member and their caregivers during treatment for an advanced illness. She was able to integrate this firsthand personal experience throughout her training as a physician, which shaped her career goals and solidified her desire to work in palliative care.
Dr. Martin received her undergraduate degree in neuroscience and psychology at Duke University and her medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine. She completed residency in internal medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at Columbia University.
She spends her time outside of work with her 2 young children, husband and energetic dog. Her family moved from New York City to Charlotte, where they now enjoy spending time outdoors, biking, swimming and exploring Charlotte. Dr. Martin is a runner and avid traveler who also practices yoga.
