Afrayem Fry Beniameen Morgan, MD

I’m board certified in both psychiatry and addiction medicine and specialize in general adult psychiatry. My approach emphasizes understanding my patients beyond diagnostic labels, attempting to recognize the physical, psychological, social and personal dimensions of their experiences.

I’m involved in our community's outreach to the medically underserved, working through Atrium Health’s Street Psychiatry program for the unhoused, Wellness Without Walls, and partnering with local harm reduction services.

I received my medical degree at Cairo University in Egypt. I completed residency in psychiatry at Wake Forest University and a fellowship in addiction medicine at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo.

I’m extensively involved in teaching medical students, residents, fellows and other healthcare trainees, with an emphasis on critical thinking, evidence-based practice and the philosophy of medicine. I believe that good medicine requires both scientific rigor and humility about the limits of any single model for understanding human behavior and suffering.

Away from work, I divide my time between exploring the great outdoors, discovering local live jazz spots, piling up books to read one day, or traveling somewhere I can get to and back from over a weekend.
