Biography
It’s a privilege to walk alongside families through every phase of their baby’s hospital course as I offer support, guidance and reassurance. I’m committed to creating a space where families feel seen, heard and truly partnered in their child’s care.
I am board certified in pediatrics. I focus on neonatal-perinatal medicine (care of newborn, premature or high-risk babies).
I was drawn to my field because it’s collaborative and holistic, and it combines critical thinking, procedural skills and compassionate, family-centered care. I value the opportunities to care for newborns facing complex challenges while supporting families through some of their most vulnerable moments.
My research focuses on reducing health disparities by screening for and addressing social determinants of health among patients and their families in the NICU and the neonatal follow-up clinic. I’m passionate about medical education and curriculum development that supports, advocates for and prepares the next generation of physicians.
I received my bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering and biochemistry at North Carolina State University. I received my medical degree and my Master of Public Health (MPH) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I also completed residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in neonatology.
Outside of work, you can find me and my family exploring museums, parks and zoos, cheering for NC State at sporting events, relaxing at the beach and traveling the world together. I am a married mother of two daughters and also enjoy binge watching a good show, indoor cycling, strength training and party planning, especially when I can make balloon arches.
