Dr. Hickey is board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary disease.
He was drawn to pulmonary and critical care medicine from his training in the intensive care unit, particularly during the first wave of COVID-19 in New York City. He wanted to emulate the compassion and resolve of his critical-care colleagues.
Dr. Hickey received his bachelor’s degree at Duke University and his medical degree at the University of Maryland. He completed residency and a fellowship at Columbia University.
His research interests include extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), difficult airway insertion and tuberculosis.
Outside of work, Dr. Hickey enjoys spending time with his wife, son and their dog. Their favorite activities are sunning at the beach on Kiawah Island, hiking and playing fetch at the dog park. He also enjoys running and reading science fiction and mystery novels.
