Biography

“I love performing abdominal surgery and am inspired by the tremendous impact I can have on my patients. I strive to do my best so that my patients have the best possible outcome.”

Dr. Davis is board certified in surgery and colon and rectal surgery. He specializes in colorectal cancer as well as diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and rectal prolapse. He serves as the vice chair of education for the Atrium Health Department of Surgery, division chief of General Surgery and section chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery.

He has won numerous awards, including Top Doctor from Castle Connolly, Charlotte magazine and Cincinnati Magazine, excellence in education awards from Atrium Health and the University of Cincinnati, an outstanding faculty award from the University of Cincinnati, the American Cancer Society’s Career Service Award, the Meritorious Service Medal and National Defense Medal from the United States Air Force.

Dr. Davis has presented lectures nationally and internationally and participated in clinical trials evaluating the efficacy of minimally invasive approaches, including single-port surgery and robotic-assisted surgery. An active clinical researcher, he has received multiple grants and authored or co-authored more than 50 manuscripts.

He is a board member of both the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and the Carolinas Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. His goal is to create a world-class colorectal surgery program that will be a preferred destination for patients with both complex and routine problems.

Dr. Davis received his medical degree at the University of Buffalo. He then completed a residency and fellowship at the University of Cincinnati, with an additional fellowship completed at the Lahey Clinic.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 children. He also loves to read, exercise, ski and play golf.
