Biography
“Nothing in medicine could be more fulfilling than my role as a reproductive endocrinologist. I am devoted to helping my patients achieve their dreams of having a family. Infertility is intensely personal, and I try to know the personal stories of my patients to help them find their best pathway for success.”
Dr. Hurst is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) and in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. He is the division director of reproductive endocrinology and infertility and the program director of assisted reproduction at Atrium Health CMC Women's Institute. He has extensive expertise in assisted reproduction, in vitro fertilization (IVF), reproductive surgery, infertility and helping women overcome birth defects.
A nationally recognized specialist, Dr. Hurst has been actively involved as a leader in his field, serving as president of the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and as a board member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. He has been recognized multiple times as a Best Doctor by the Charlotte Business Journal and a Top Doctor by Charlotte Magazine.
Inspired by the care he received from his family doctor, Dr. Hurst knew from a young age he wanted a career in medicine. He chose obstetrics and gynecology and later reproductive endocrinology because he was attracted to the challenge and demands of a continually evolving field.
Dr. Hurst has been the investigator or co-investigator for multiple funded research studies, including National Institutes of Health (NIH) sponsored studies. He has written or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles in medical journals and conducted over 100 scientific presentations at national and international meetings within the field of reproductive endocrinology.
Dr. Hurst received his medical degree at The University of Texas and completed a residency at Duke University. He completed a fellowship at Johns Hopkins University.
Outside of work, Dr. Hurst enjoys spending time with his wife, whom he credits for his career, and his 2 daughters. He likes cooking, traveling and sports. His favorite teams are the Carolina Panthers, the Texas Longhorns and the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team. He enjoys reading and still considers “Lonesome Dove” his favorite book.
