He grew up in Lenoir, North Carolina and initially wanted to be a veterinarian but decided working with children would be more fulfilling.
Dr. Benfield received his bachelor’s degree, his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of North Carolina.
He lives on a farm in Shelby, North Carolina. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, kayaking and riding horses. He has a son and 2 daughters.
