I grew up in Lenoir, N.C., and initially wanted to be a veterinarian but decided working with children would be more fulfilling.
I received my bachelor’s degree, my medical degree and completed my residency at the University of North Carolina.
I live on a farm in Shelby, N.C. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, kayaking and riding horses. I have a son and two daughters.
