“I enjoy pediatric neurology because it allows me opportunities to serve others. Through my profession, I have grown emotionally and spiritually. This has enabled me to communicate effectively with empathy and use my strengths for the betterment of children’s overall health.”
Dr. Cecilia Fernandes is board certified in pediatric neurology. Conditions she treats include epilepsy, headaches, developmental delays and neuromuscular conditions in children. She is also trained in integrative medicine to deliver holistic care to children.
She chose her practice specialty because it helps her exercise her strengths of patience and listening to better serve children. She finds neurology intellectually stimulating and the conditions so diverse. She recognizes that optimal treatment requires effectively obtaining each patient’s medical history, performing physical exams and earning the trust of families.
Additionally, she is an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
Dr. Fernandes holds certification through the Academy of Pediatric Integrative Medicine. She received her medical degree at Manipal College of Medical Sciences in Pokhara, Nepal, and completed residency in child neurology at Duke University.
Outside of work, she is the director of Maitribodh Peace Services, a non-profit socio-spiritual organization. She conducts meditation classes and organizes spiritual retreats across the U.S. and Canada.
