Biography
As a board-certified medical oncologist, my goal is simple: I want every person in our community to have access to excellent cancer care, close to home.
I believe in treating every patient like family. That means I take time to listen, show respect and be present for you at every step. I explain things clearly and in plain language, so you understand your options and feel confident in your care.
When you come to see me, you can expect a thoughtful, team-based approach. We will talk through your diagnosis, your goals and your treatment options together. I will guide you and your family with honesty, compassion and care, just as I would for my own loved ones.
My clinical and research interests include:
- Head and neck cancers, endocrine cancers and thoracic and lung cancers
- Early-phase (Phase I) clinical trials and new treatments
- Lung cancer screening, including work with our mobile screening unit
- Community outreach and improving access to cancer care
I am fluent in Spanish and welcome the chance to care for patients and families in the language they are most comfortable with.
Teaching is an essential part of who I am. As an associate professor of cancer medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, I help train future cancer specialists. I also serve as the associate program director for the Hematology and Oncology Fellowship Program at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center. Teaching keeps me learning and growing, and I bring that knowledge to my patients every day.
Additionally, I serve as the senior assistant director for the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement at our National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. This role allows me to connect with patients beyond the clinic, to support all of our communities and to sustain early detection and care across the region.
My path to medicine began at Duke University, where I earned my engineering degree and a master’s degree. I then completed medical school, internal medicine residency and a hematology-oncology fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
My wife and I moved to Charlotte to begin our life and careers here, and we’ve called the city our home since 2007. It’s is a privilege to serve this community.
Cancer care can feel overwhelming, but you are not alone. I’m here to support you every step of the way, and I look forward to meeting you.
