Biography

“My philosophy of patient care is to, first and foremost, be a compassionate doctor who listens and cares. I learn so much more from and about my patients when I remember to listen to their stories and take the time to make them feel heard. Beyond that, I prioritize keeping my skills top-level, so patients know they are truly getting the best technical care. Finally, moving the field forward by understanding and doing the clinical research that allows us to better care for patients each year is a passion of mine.”

Dr. Cox is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology and interventional cardiology. He has clinical interests in coronary stents and the care of cardiogenic shock patients.

He has enjoyed being part of the progress of coronary stents, from their approval in 1993 to present-day improved versions, which he feels represents a significant advancement in medical care for patients.

Dr. Cox was named a master interventionalist by the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) and has served as a SCAI president, treasurer and chair of their Communications Committee. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

He received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan and his medical degree at The University of Chicago.

Dr. Cox has been a primary investigator researching coronary stents and thrombectomies. He has been invited to present at conferences for SCAI, American College of Cardiology, Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) and Cardiovascular Research Technologies (CRT).

Outside of work, he loves spending time with his wife, who is the associate dean of Health and Wellness at Queens University. They have 2 daughters; one is a counselor, and another is a veterinarian. They also have 2 energetic golden retrievers with whom Dr. Cox enjoys running on local trails.
