“My motivation for being a behavioral neurologist is to help families and people struggling with cognitive disorders have a solid foundation of understanding of their disorder and a pathway to move forward. Often, the uncertainty and fear of the unknown can be the most overwhelming part of any medical journey. By providing clarity, support and guidance, I hope to ease that burden and empower them to face their challenges with confidence.”
Dr. DeJarra Rivera is trained in behavioral neurology. Conditions she treats include dementia, mild cognitive impairment, frontotemporal lobe dysfunction, Alzheimer's disease, posterior cortical atrophy, primary progressive aphasia, Lewy body dementias and vascular dementias.
What drew Dr. Rivera to her specialty is the way neurologic diseases can selectively impact language, decision-making or emotional regulation, which are core aspects of who we are. Being able to understand and manage disorders like dementia, progressive aphasia or frontal lobe syndromes can profoundly affect quality of life, relationships and independence of not only the patient but of their loved ones.
Dr. Rivera received her medical degree at the University of South Alabama.
She enjoys spending quality time with her family, visiting interactive museums and exploring science fiction and fantasy through audiobooks and film, particularly Star Wars.
