“I fell in love with the world of neonatology as a medical student. Babies can't tell us what's wrong, and it can be a challenge to figure out what's bothering them. Every premature baby has a distinct personality. I enjoy helping these tiny little fighters and their families.”
Dr. Hassinger is board certified in pediatrics, neonatal and perinatal medicine. She specializes in high-risk pregnancies and treats newborn babies, especially premature babies with lung, nutrition and neurodevelopment conditions.
Dr. Hassinger is the medical director for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Atrium Health - Pineville and Atrium Health - Union. She has received multiple community and pediatric resident teaching awards. Her research interests include studying the protective effects of mothers’ breast milk.
She is motivated and inspired by the personal connections and relationships she develops. Recognizing that the NICU can be overwhelming, she provides compassion, patience and excellent communication skills to patients and their families.
Dr. Hassinger received her medical degree at the University of Texas. She completed a residency at Morristown Medical Center and a fellowship at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
In her free time, she enjoys photography, travel, learning golf and spending time outdoors with her husband and family.
