Elizabeth "Katie" Borders, MD

“I have always enjoyed the variety of our daily work, from seeing patients in the office to delivering babies to performing surgeries. Adding to that variety, I have taken on leadership responsibilities within the women's service line to ensure we are providing the best experiences for our patients and care teams."

Dr. Borders is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) and specializes in minimally invasive hysterectomies and contraceptive management.

She is passionate about preventing teenage pregnancies, and she is working with others at Atrium Health to prevent maternal health disparities.

Dr. Borders is the senior medical director of the women's service line for the Southeast region of Atrium Health. Additionally, she is a past chair of the North Carolina section of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the former regional OB champion for the North Carolina Maternal Health Innovation Grant and Pregnancy Medical Home.

Dr. Borders is a Shelby, North Carolina, native who received her medical degree and completed residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She lives in Shelby with her husband and 2 sons and enjoys trying new recipes and traveling in her spare time. She is very involved in her community, serving on various boards.
