Biography
“Every patient has a story. I am passionate about the brain-gut connection, and I enjoy empowering patients and teaching them how to use GI-focused behavioral approaches to enhance their next chapter and improve their quality of life.”
Elyse Thakur is the director of clinical psychology at Atrium Health Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She is a clinical health psychologist who specializes in treating digestive disorders and diseases using evidence-based, brain-gut behavioral therapies. She works with patients collaboratively to develop personalized treatment plans.
Thakur is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. She is involved in teaching and actively conducts research on complementary and integrative health approaches for GI conditions. She serves on several national committees for gastroenterology and integrative medicine societies.
Thakur has earned her doctoral degree at Wayne State University, completed her predoctoral internship at Baylor College of Medicine and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center.
