Biography

“Pediatric rheumatology is a small, niche field that treats kids with rare, systemic autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases. My goal is to educate medical students, trainees and professionals about pediatric rheumatologic diseases. With increased awareness and prompt referrals, I hope to diagnose and intervene early and have a long-term positive impact on children's lives.”

Dr. Emily F. Beil is board certified in general pediatrics and specializes in pediatric rheumatology. Her clinical interests include pediatric rheumatology and specifically, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile dermatomyositis and systemic autoinflammatory diseases.

During medical school, Dr. Beil wanted to learn more about rheumatologic diseases after witnessing a close family member living with the disease. She completed a summer research program with a rheumatologist in Dallas, TX, which led to presentations of her research at international rheumatology conferences in London, England, and Washington, D.C. She likes the challenge of her specialty and loves working with children. Once she discovered the field of pediatric rheumatology, she found her calling.

Dr. Beil received the Texas Children’s Hospital Medical Staff Best and Most Complete Physician Fellow Excellence Award and the Rheumatology Research Foundation Pediatric Rheumatology Fellow Research Award. She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society, the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), and the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA).

Her research and academic interests include the social determinants of health’s influence on rheumatologic diseases, medical education, and developing patient and family educational materials.

Dr. Beil received her bachelor’s degree at The University of Texas at Austin, her master’s degree at the University of Houston and her medical degree at Texas A&M University. She completed residency in pediatrics at Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital and a fellowship in pediatric rheumatology at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital.

She and her husband, Richard, are high school sweethearts, and both graduated from The University of Texas at Austin. They have 2 black lab mixes, Belle and Bear. The couple loves nature and being outdoors with their dogs as they explore different hiking trails and then relax on a patio at a restaurant or brewery. During the fall, they devote their Saturdays to watching college football and wearing burnt orange as they support the University of Texas Longhorns.
