Biography

“In psychiatry, our patients come to us at their most vulnerable times. Often, we’re trusted with parts of their lives they’ve never allowed anyone else to know. This places us in an incredibly unique position to serve our patients with compassion and without judgment while we meet them where they are.”

Dr. Emma Gerstemeier is board certified in general psychiatry. She has a special interest in child and adolescent psychiatry.

She believes the practice of psychiatry allows for a holistic approach to patient care. As such, she considers not only the biological factors at play but also the social, psychological and spiritual issues that may be present as well.

Dr. Gerstemeier received her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Duke University and her degree in osteopathic medicine at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Prisma Health Midlands.

In her leisure time, she enjoys traveling with her husband and visiting the beach with her family, because she’s always happiest when she can see the water. The “dog mom” of 3 is passionate about fitness and working out. Dr. Gerstemeier loves music and looks forward to dusting off her former theater and musical performance skills sometime soon.
