Biography

“I credit a great deal of my personal character and development to lessons learned while playing sports. I have an understanding and respect for the commitment and work injured athletes must put in to return to their sport. Playing a small role in their recovery and being able to witness their success is the most rewarding aspect of sports medicine.”

Dr. Kropf is board certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. He has a clinical interest in treating complex knee ligament injuries. He routinely performs anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgeries and cartilage restoration, as well as knee preservation surgeries such as cartilage and meniscus transplantation.

As a former collegiate baseball player, Dr. Kropf has a passion for the care of throwing athletes. He routinely performs shoulder surgery for wear and tear of the rotator cuff and instability of the shoulder. He also provides surgical management of elbow conditions.

Dr. Kropf is one of few surgeons in the region to perform hip arthroscopy for labral tears and hip impingement. This is surgery to look at, diagnose and treat tears in the ring of cartilage that cushions the hip joint socket. Dr. Kropfʼs research interests focus on predictors of outcomes for arthroscopic management of hip impingement and labral pathology, as well as for ACL surgery. He has also conducted research on clinical outcomes following non-arthroplasty management (treatment options outside of joint replacement) of knee arthritis in active patients.

He has been recognized as a Top Doctor by Charlotte magazine, Philadelphia magazine and Castle Connolly. He was also recognized by PA Top Docs.

He received his medical degree at Georgetown University and completed a residency and a fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh.

When not working, Dr. Kropf enjoys spending time with his wife, Patricia, and 2 sons, Wesley and Charlie. His wife is an oncologist with an equally demanding schedule, and they prioritize time with family. They love to travel and explore Charlotte, NC, with their 2 yellow Labradors. Dr. Kropf also enjoys golfing, biking and helping coach his sons in their athletic endeavors.
